Biography

Heather N. Seigler is a Partner at Burger, Meyer & D’Angelo, LLP, and has extensive litigation experience in insurance defense, including car accidents, premises liability, wrongful death, products liability, elder abuse, tractor-trailer accidents, first party cases such as uninsured/underinsured motorist cases and alleged abuse cases. Ms. Seigler’s experience includes the analysis and litigation of complex injury cases, including catastrophic injury.

Before joining Burger, Meyer & D’Angelo, LLP, she gained valuable experience working in-house for an insurance company where she successfully tried 7 cases to verdict, all with positive outcomes for her clients. She was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2016 at her firm. She then honed her craft working as panel counsel for a number of insurance companies, self-insured companies, major trucking companies, and several fortune 500 grocery chains. While there, Ms. Seigler tried an alleged multi-million-dollar trial involving an amputated limb and alleged complex regional pain syndrome which included numerous experts and several weeks of trial. Again, she received a verdict that was a positive outcome for her clients. Ms. Seigler then took an opportunity to work on the plaintiff side where she gained valuable experience learning from the “other side” and taking numerous expert and treating doctor depositions. She quickly grew to learn that plaintiff’s side work was less rewarding.

Prior to beginning litigation work, she spent her first two years as a member of the bar working in academia as an Academic Support Fellow and Adjunct Professor at Whittier Law School. Through the duration of her career, she has continued to have a passion for education and has taught dozens of MCLE courses on various aspects of litigation including People v. Sanchez, Voir Dire, wrongful death cases, hip injuries from car accidents, bad faith, and elimination of bias.

Prior to graduating from law school, Ms. Seigler received her B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Columbia University in 2007. While there she received the Class of 1939 Scholarship and participated in Varsity Softball. She then went on to earn the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and received her J.D. from Whittier Law School, with Certificate in Legal Writing magna cum laude in 2011. She was an Associate Editor of Law Review and also a member of the Public Interest Law Foundation. She also worked as a teacher’s assistant in Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, and Criminal Law, all while working off campus in retail. She published an article within At Issue: Medical Malpractice with Gale Academic OneFile. She also successfully published The People v. Indiana Lumbermens, Mutual Insurance Company, Case No. E050297 (CA Dist. 4 Ct. App., Div. 2, Apr. 7, 2011) via a Request for Publication during an externship with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. She also took part in the prestigious Los Angeles Superior Court Summer Judicial Extern Program under the Honorable Mark Borenstein.

When she is not working, she enjoys hiking the Back Bay in Newport Beach, cycling, snowboarding, audiobooks, her three cats Babou, Eleanor, and Kahlua, her Standard Poodle Lana, Sci-Fi, Maui, trying new foods, and traveling. She is also a member of the Riverside Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, San Bernardino Bar Association, Western San Bernardino Bar Association, and American Bar Association.

Ms. Seigler is licensed to practice in California.
