Iyad Silmi is an Associate Attorney at Burger, Meyer & D’Angelo, LLP, where he focuses his practice on civil litigation and insurance defense. Prior to joining the firm, Iyad served as Staff Counsel for one of the nation’s largest home and auto insurance providers, where he managed a substantial caseload of Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM), auto accidents, premises liability and other civil litigation matters. He regularly managed approximately 40 active cases at a time, handling matters from initial evaluation through discovery, depositions, alternative dispute resolution, settlement, and resolution.
During his time as Staff Counsel, Iyad gained extensive experience handling all aspects of civil litigation. His responsibilities included constant communication with clients, responding to pleadings, propounding and responding to written discovery, reviewing and analyzing medical records and treatment histories, evaluating liability and damages, and working closely with claims professionals to develop litigation strategy and assess exposure. He took and defended more than 60 depositions and negotiated directly with opposing counsel, successfully resolving hundreds of cases through settlement. He also obtained a favorable result in an arbitration involving a premises liability matter and resolved dozens of cases through mediation and Mandatory Settlement Conferences (MSCs).
Through his litigation practice, Iyad has developed substantial experience in case evaluation, discovery, deposition practice, negotiation, arbitration, mediation, and trial-related preparation. He takes a practical and strategic approach to each matter, with an emphasis on thorough preparation, effective communication, and achieving favorable and efficient results for his clients.
Outside of his legal practice, Iyad enjoys watching sports, particularly soccer and football, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with his children and family.
